Smog shouldn't shorten your life.....by much

Wow. After a legit 24 hours of traveling,  I made it to Shanghai minus my luggage.

My first taste of China came from my flight. Being one of maybe 4 or 5 English speakers was interesting. The Chinese next to me sure liked to shop duty free. Duty free is a big deal. Why shop in a store for normal non-absurd prices....when you can shop in the convenience of your airplane seat for astronomical prices?

Baggage claim was a bit nerve-wracking. My luggage was placed on the next days flight so I didn't get it until about 2 days after arriving. But the Ameson people picked me and several of us up got us here at the hotel and have been really helpful.

So the past few days have been just training. But the locals have definitely have provided some entertainment. Here are some highlights:

-The hotel doesn't have WiFi, but some one in a room near mine and my roommate's and we use his. It's called Mr's Macbook. And we really love him.

-In our welcome and opening ceremonies we were warned that the "Smog in China won't shorten your life. By much." And that to watch for electric scooters when walking. Because they can creep up on you. And that is entirely correct.

-Rice is at every meal. Every single meal. Every. Single. Meal.

-Pig's throat is pretty tasty

-So is goose paste with some cheese.

-I'm Victoria here. So that's happening. Curse of going by your middle name when your first name is on all official documents. I find myself not always answering, people here just probably think I have bad hearing.

-Chopsticks are kinda hard, but I'm getting by.

-The key to an excellent barter is to walk away.

-I blew a few people’s minds when I told them about having pigs, goats, and a llama. And about tractors driving in roads.

All in all, it has been really fun. Shanghai is used to foreigners so not too much staring has been going on, but they told us to expect that in smaller cities.
Just a few more days of training and off to Wenzhou with 3 other teachers I go!

Ps: I’ve told everyone wrong. Wenzhou is pronounced like wen-joe. Stumped me, too.
