Jingle Balls

It's only a little strange to be working on Christmas, but I am glad to have students who are determined to always make me laugh and have fun in class :)

This week during class I walk them through a normal day of Christmas, waking up, opening presents, eating big lunches, playing with your siblings/cousins and new presents. Then we have some fun playing "Pass the Present" which is just hot potato, only the winner gets to open the present which a big candy cane! And we sing Christmas songs, play pin the nose on Rudolf, and everybody gets a little candy cane, I bought 500 on TaoBao (their ebay).

They really like Jingle Bells. The boys like to sing "Jingle Balls" and laugh devilishly. Whatever, kids. haaaa

Once again, the theory that teenagers are
the same everywhere is proven correct.

Everyone also gets paper and write what they would want for Christmas. Then I have them put the paper on a MacGyver type Christmas tree I whipped up from cardboard and an origami star.

Here are some things so far they've written:

I'm going to keep my eyes on John....haaa

Guess who taught them that slang...I can tell I am really making a real educational impact with these students haaa

Don't we all...

This kids are obsessed with the fact that we get two weeks from school during Christmas and New Years.
The past few days many have told me "If we were in America, no school right now! I want to be in America!"

Some rogue post-it notes have started popping up, which always happens when I do things like this.
As long as they write in English, I don't really care haa
Another rogue note example. But I'm 99% sure of the exact student who did this. He's one of my favorites :) I've got some seriously devoted hip-hop fans.

Fun week so far! Wednesday I have to teach three classes, but I know it will be a good time. These kids are great. And they love celebrating holidays, especially ones that aren't Chinese, haa.

Here's a video I added subtitles to so we could sing in class. They really liked it, especially all the YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUs, haaa

These past few weeks in class we've sang all sorts of Christmas songs, and I love catching students and teachers randomly around campus humming them.

Operation Christmas at Longwan High School: SUCCESS.

And Wednesday night me and Nikki and Dionne are going to go eat Beijing duck, just like in A Christmas Story, to celebrate Christmas!
Even the mall is in on Christmas:

So even though I'm half a world away, it's still going to be a good Christmas, and I am happy to have been able to share about the holiday to all my teachers and students :)
