Bracket Contest

Look at the shirt I found:

This week I also started a new unit - a bracket Playoff contest.

I showed them this and was rewarded with uproarious laughter

I made a giant bracket complete with logos, some of which I asked students to draw.

A student rocked this one

The Mavericks one is so beautiful, no joke.

The Heat is most students' favorite team, so I asked one student
who I noticed gets picked on sometimes to do it for me.
I'm hoping he got some cred.
That same boy also did the Hawks.
I also made a giant US map that says "Do you know where the NBA teams are from?"
I can successfully name them all if you ask.
I had a lot of fun making it and asking the kids to help. And they all seem to really enjoy it, especially as I move the teams as we head into round 2.

I told each class about the contest, and said if they want to, they can participate by making their own bracket. The student who guesses the most correctly, including guessing the MVP, wins a Pacers shirt and basketball I found on TaoBao (China Ebay).

They were super excited. And I now have hundreds of brackets that I'll score once the playoffs are farther along. One boy's made me smile, even though he put the Hawks over the Pacers.
haaaaaaaaaaaa i love this so much
So I am happy to see them staring at it, talking in English to me and each other.
That's all I really wanted :)

Cue success dance
Earlier this month, the classes flew kites. Which I said, how is that they can fly kites, but playing with Frisbees isn't cool?

And they also had their own class playoffs:

So just some normal afternoons at Longwan High School. Time is really moving fast, and I'm going to be sad to leave them in a few months, but all good things must come to an end. And my China era will have definitely have a bittersweet ending.
