Halloween in Class

Last week I celebrated Halloween in class. It was great! I showed clips from movies that made them jump, we watched the Thriller video, and we had plenty of candy :) I also had them play a guess who game using Halloween vocabulary.
Here's one of the clue for Guess Who.
Can YOU guess what Halloween monster it is....

This is was my favorite video of the week. Every class jumped, and it was fantastic.
I spent 84 rmb on all this, which is about $14
China is quickly embracing Halloween, the mall nearby had decorations and even some people working in American restaurants, like Pizza Hut, were dressed up as they served pizza.

Pizza Hut, it's way fancier than the ones at home

"Haunted House" at the mall

We also played the game where you wrap each other in toilet paper to make mummies. They thought that was pretty funny. I also TPed some classrooms and showed them examples of pranks teenagers like them do in the fall.

This one is just a tad blurry.....

They liked that, but when I went to clean it up and throw it away, the students yelled at me to stop! They kept the toilet paper to be used later. Here in China most public bathrooms don't have toilet paper, the entire country is a BYOTP haaa. So in the end they were happy I gave them not only candy, but FREE toilet paper. :)

It doesn't take much to please these kiddos :)

Here's one class, I thought I took a picture, but apparently I took a video haa

(One of my favorite shows has a quote with a teacher saying "spin around China man, spin around!" I had to bite my tongue to not yell that out...haaa)

This is class 5. My Friday classes (and truthfully, all of my classes) are always a little wild, but I love it :)
His dancing is actually something I've done in class a few times...

All the classrooms have the same set up and look exactly the same, except for that the students sometimes rearrange the desks and each class decorates the back blackboard differently.

Here is one class blackboard. They chose a student who does the art. They just use chalk and water to smudge, and make these beautiful pictures

This week is Sports Week! The schools have essentially a track meet with class against class. They are pretty pumped, so part of our lesson plan was learning "We Will Rock You" and "All I Do is Win". Just to get them nice and pumped for competition.

Gettin pumped gettin pumped

On the random side of things-- Nikki and Dionne, the two Americans that teach close by, have informed me that I have adopted the Chinese mannerisms of staring at foreigners, walking wherever I want in the road, and saying obvious things loudly.

Seriously though, when I see another non-Asian person, I pretty much pull this old lady's face and stare.

There should be a specific wave every foreigner must learn when entering China's smaller cities so that when we see each other, we can just do the little special wave, and move on. Like something that says: "Hey, look at us, we clearly don't belong here but alas, here we are" in nonverbal, hand wave form.

Like this! This would be perfect.

So until we have that wave, I just play it real cool, like:

But that's okay! Don't be surprised when you see me staring at you for too long once I get home. Especially since I won't have Nikki and Dionne beside me telling me to "Stop, Caitlin. You're white, their white, you shouldn't be surprised."
